Grace and Law (2) This is the second posting on Grace and Law, in the first posting I showed from the scriptures how we are still to keep law while being under grace, that we are also under the Law OF CHRIST that is, while still being under grace… Now some might still ask, “doesn’t law, any type of law cancel out grace? For the scripture does say… (Rom 11:6 WEB) “And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.” Well first of all The Law of Christ is not based on works for it speaks this way.. (1 John 3:23-24 WEB) “This is his commandment, that we should ((BELIEVE)) in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded. 24 He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.” The law of Christ commands faith and love, and it’s faith that gives us access to grace... (Rom 5:1-2 WEB) “Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; 2 through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand.” Second, again, the ‘works’ in which Paul is speaking about that do not justify is based on the old Mosaic law, while the ‘works’ which are connected to faith are a result of grace and faith… (James 2:21-22 WEB) “Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? 22 You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected;” The old law which was based on meats, and drink and washings of the flesh, imposed until the time of reformation gave way to a greater law of Christ which fulfilled the old law. Nevertheless, if anyone is still inclined to be argumentative about whether we still keep law, (law of Christ) while still being under grace we have extremely clear scriptures that speak to the matter… (Titus 2:11-12 WEB) “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, 12 instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;” (2 Tim 2:19 WEB) “However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.” (Heb 12:14 NIV) “Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Please read the next posting coming soon, which will be the last, on Grace and Law… Thanks for reading.
