Grace, peace, and mercy to you all from God our Father and the Lord Jesus. I am writing this update as Christine drives us toward the farm in Dover, KS. We are on the last leg of a trip that took us through Western Kansas, Eastern Colorado and eventually into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains Eastern slope. As most of you know the Kansas-Nebraska disaster relief family has been engaged almost daily this past four months responding to floods, wind damage, and the needs of folks seeking shelter because of storms. Many lives were changed physically, emotionally, and spiritually because you were there as the heart, hands, and feet of Jesus affirming that God loves all of His creation. Your ministry to those in need is the first time many have seen the love of God. Someone, sometime, somewhere may have told them of this truth, however hearing of God’s love and experiencing it are two different things. It is true, even those in need don’t care what you say, until they know you care. Words cannot express the joy in my heart as I observe you step up selflessly and embrace situations and issues that most consider someone else’s problem. That you can see and respond to these “problems” as opportunities says a lot about who you are…. disciples of God’s own Son Jesus. Praise God! The Recovery Team from NewSpring Church Wichita begins their trip home from the Black Forest, Colorado cleanup Sunday. They have done a great job and their efforts make us all proud. Dwain Carter, Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief Director, called yesterday to ask how we were fairing the rain and floods. After I assured him that we were holding our own, he shared a need for Mudout recovery support. At least 55 victims of the flood ravaged homes have asked for help. Sean Schraeder from First Southern Baptist Church in Dodge City is heading up our efforts to build a team and deploy Monday in response to Dwain’s request. The Mudout unit from the Eastern Nebraska Baptist Association will deploy with the team. If you feel God drawing your heart to go and help out please call Sean, (620) 789-2315, and let him know. It is not necessary that you have completed the Mudout training that we offer. Experienced Mudout leaders will be with you. Jeff Thomson and the team from CrossPoint church in Hutchinson continue to respond to recovery needs in and around the Hutchinson and South Central Kansas area. These “good works” that are happening are those mentioned in scripture that were “prepared for us ahead of time.” God is soooo Awesome! As we approach this next week remember that God loves each of you dearly, and so do I. Call and encourage each other and don’t forget to pray for those you reach out to. Leaders don’t forget your flock. Those of us being led, don’t forget your leaders. God planned for us to accomplish these works together. Respectfully, LT
