Grade Inflation? Blame Schoenberg. In regards to the grades of Mr. Leroy J. Robertson in courses 108a SS1936 and 208a SS1936 First term I would like to make the following explanation: Since this was my first class in America, and since it was the first time that I had to grade students, I was not accustomed to do it and was embarrassed by this requirement. Therefore I asked a friend what I should do. He recommended that I give everybody C, for he said that this is passing grade. Thus the grade of C is not a personal evaluation of Mr. Robertson, whom I know as an excellent musician.
