Graduate Programs: The Wharton School’s Doctoral Program in Applied Economics: Our objective is to recruit motivated students ready to start doing research in cooperation with our diverse faculty. Candidates with strong foundational training in economics and who have shown proficiency for and interest in academic research will be prioritized. Whartons PhD program in Applied Economics gives students the tools and training to get jobs in applied-economics positions in economics departments, business schools, and public policy programs. Our program is designed to prepare students to conduct rigorous research. Students take core courses in microeconomic theory and quantitative methods. Students also take two major field concentrations designed to give them the tools necessary to conduct quality research in a core economic discipline. The curriculum combines courses offered in the Applied Economics and other graduate programs at the Wharton School, as well as courses offered by the Penn Economics Department. Drawing from over 37 faculty members in the Business Economics and Public Policy and Real Estate departments, as well as a large number of economists across multiple Wharton departments, the Applied Economics program allows specialization in a number of areas, including Behavioral Economics, Development Economics, Economics of Risk Management, Industrial Economics and Business Regulation, Market Design, Public Economics and Political Economy, and Urban Economics and Real Estate. See attached list of faculty and their research interests. Students may also form a second major using courses offered by other programs at the Wharton School. Incoming students are guaranteed funding for five years. Our Fellowship offers full tuition and fees along with a stipend of $27,103 per year to highly qualified candidates whose goal is to become a leading applied economics researcher. Applications are due by December 15, 2013. Additional information on our program is available at: wharton.upenn.edu/doctoral/programs/applied-economics.cfm Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
