Graduation is the climactic event in the calendar of every university. ANU is no exception. Plans have been in the works for months and all those plans will come to fulfillment in just a weeks time, Friday, 31 October. However, our festivities actually begin early in the week. So, as we move toward that day, we want the ANU community to be aware of all the activities that have been planned. Some of them will affect even the continuing students who do not plan to be present for graduation. Let me review them with you: 1. Monday: From Monday our very important guests will begin arriving. In fact, ANU will be hosting important business meetings of the Africa Region of the Church of the Nazarene during the course of the week. So, if you are on the main campus and you happen to cross paths with these visitors, please introduce yourself and make them feel very welcome. 2. Tuesday: The special speaker for our Tuesday chapel service at the main campus will be Dr. Eugenio Duarte, General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene in jurisdiction for Africa. The office of General Superintendent is the highest office in the Church of the Nazarene and this G.S. happens to be from Africa! All are welcome to this special chapel service at the main campus from 10:10 A.M. 3. Wednesday: We will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the founding of ANU with our ANU Founders and Alumni Day Celebration. This will be a special service at the main campus in the Hestrom Student Center auditorium. This will take the place of Thursdays chapel which is cancelled due to the Graduation Rehearsal. ANU will be blessed to have many important visitors with us that day as we praise God for how far He has brought us. This service will begin at 9:40 AM and run through the rest of the morning. All classes on the main campus for the second and third periods (10 A.M. to 1:40 P.M.) will be cancelled. All faculty and staff and students at the main campus are required to be present for this special occasion. A strong representation of staff and students from the Nairobi CBD Campus will be coming as well. 4. Thursday: Thursday next week is Rehearsal Day. All graduands, staff, and faculty involved in the rehearsal should be on the graduation grounds under the tents by 9:45 A.M. sharp to receive your seating assignments. Classes are NOT cancelled on Thursday, Rehearsal Day. However, some particular faculty who are involved in the rehearsal may need to make alternative arrangements. Those include Deans, Chairs and Marshals. Faculty who are not Deans, Chairs, or Marshals should be in class and all students should be in class on Thursday in all campuses and centers. The Phi Delta Lambda Honor Society Luncheon and Induction Ceremony for all First Class Honors Students will take place at 1:00 P.M. at Miriam Crawford Lounge on the Main Campus. The Graduation Dinner will take place at the Weston Hotel on Langata Rod near Wilson Airport from 5:30 P.M. Contact the Alumni Office for more details. 5. Friday, Graduation Day: All full time faculty are required to participate in the graduation exercises. Faculty should pick their gowns (that you have previously reserved) on Rehearsal Day or earlier. All graduands and faculty participating in the graduation exercises should be robed and ready inside the Helstrom Center auditorium for the procession line-up at 8:00 A.M. Friday morning. Please beware of the potential for traffic jams that morning and plan accordingly. All students and staff and part time faculty in any of our campuses and centers who are not marching, or ushering or serving in some capacity are welcome to attend graduation. Regardless of whether you are involved or merely attending the graduation ceremony, please make sure that you wear your ID badges that day. We will have over 80 extra police and security officers that day who will not know you and your ID will be the only thing to assure them that you belong at the venue. We request that students and staff who are not serving or involved in the ceremony but merely attending give the limited seating under tents to parents and family members of the graduands. Classes are cancelled in all campuses and centers on Graduation Day both day and evening so that as many as may wish can participate in this grand event. Looking forward to a great week! See you there. -- Prof. Rodney L. Reed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic Affairs Africa Nazarene University Nairobi, Kenya
