Grand Islands Platt School opened its classrooms in 1888. It was named in honor of Nathan Platt, a Union Pacific Railroad bookkeeper and school board member who served as board president. The building, seen below, was located at Seventh and Elm Streets. The second pictures is Edna Switzers third grade class sits at attention in about 1907. Handmade Christmas decorations can be seen hanging on the wall at the right.
