Grand Kru County- The National Elections Commission usual habit of allowing polling staff in rural Liberia during and after electioneering processes to walk longer distances (5-6hrs) without security presence, nearly escalated chaos in Barclayville-Grand Kru County today December 21, 2014 at about 6PM. At about 6PM today, A Presiding officer, only identified as Naweshue hired to support NEC efforts in the conduct of the Special Senatorial Election was observed carrying a Ballot Box and a bucket belonging to NEC in his house. According to eyewitnesses, the man who is believed to have traveled for nearly the whole day from Degblahken, one of the far to reach villages in District #1, to Barclayville, the Capitol, requested his colleagues to await him while he attend to nature at his resident in Barclayville. While in the rest room, supporters of the only female Senatorial Candidate, UPs Rosalind Segbe Tonne Sneh saw him and apparently drew the attention of their colleagues. The angry supporters took the street and directly walked to the mans resident and broke in his room where they reportedly found the box and a bucket. Some argued that the box was open; while others claimed that those saying so only interested in in negative report. Moreover, the angry group swiftly alleged that the UP major contender, Albert Tugbe Chie most have been the one who ask the man to take the ballot box to his house for the purposes of cheating the only female in the race. UP Grand Kru Secretary General David J. Togba alleged that they requested the attention of the police, however, he said the police only arrested the man but refused to address his concern. “They in return requested me to take whatever complain I have to the NEC local office,” he noted. The Police say they preferred to speak through their spokesman at Headquarters in Monrovia, after it was observed that they had since arrested the issue and put under control. It was also observed that the Police turnover the ballot box and other items to NEC. When contacted the NEC office via phone, Mr. Duke S. Sarnor, NECs Grand Kru Magistrate refused to comment on the matter. However, it continue to be observed that citizens of the County who are hired to support NEC would walked from far and near carrying on their heads ballot boxes without police accompanying them at the NEC local office. Some party observers and opinion leaders expressed dissatisfaction over what they term as “NEC persistent attitude.” “That’s the risk we are taking here. We walk whole day and night just to bring these boxes. Or, We pay our own way to come and bring the boxes alone, in fact, My mother is still in the bush because the NEC office did not give her money to return. They only carry us there then refused to bring us back. If their good heart is there, they pay for you if the person reaches them, one of the staff who preferred not to be named due to fear of reprisal, arrived today like several others in Barclayville told this medium.
