Granny’s Corner My grandmother Amelia, who died 3 months - TopicsExpress

Granny’s Corner My grandmother Amelia, who died 3 months short of being 100 years-old, swore that celery juice, placed in the eyes with a dropper, had cleared up her cataracts, restored her sight, and kept it that way. Her vision was still sharp as she was still reading without glasses at age 99. I remember my two cousins, Nancy, Ruth and I visiting my grandma for a week in the summer time. She had us going out to the garden and picking some fresh celery for her and she mashed some celery into a pulp with a fork; then she strained out the juice, added some water, and put drops of it in her eyes. She had a water well in the back yard and my cousins and I loved pumping on the handle and pumping out fresh sparking cold water. I don’t remember how often she put the drops in her eyes but it seems like she did it two or three times a week when we stayed with her. Now days, with all the pesticides and herbicides, etc. it would be best to purchase organic celery and use purified water. Or you can purchase organic celery juice at your local health food market. If you live in the Northland, then “Green Acres (market) is the place to be”. Each morning she sent us out into the woods to pick fresh blackberries and gooseberries and we would have them for breakfast. In the evening Grandma would give each of us a mason jar and we would go outside in the evening and catch lightning bugs and put them in our jars and watch them light up our room at night. I have some wonderful memories visiting Grandma. If you don’t want to waste all that juice from the celery, make a juice using celery, apple and carrot drink. Drop a few apples, minus the core, a carrot and a stick of celery into the juicer and drink that for a mid-afternoon drink. Juice the celery stick first and save a little bit of celery juice for you cataracts and then toss in the carrot and apples to complete the juicing process for a nutrient-filled drink. The apples sweeten it up.
