Granted, I was very tired last night... The Grand Budapest Hotel - TopicsExpress

Granted, I was very tired last night... The Grand Budapest Hotel probably warrants a second viewing for me. I think the main problems were the relentless pacing and the lack of connection I felt for the characters. I love Ralph Fiennes but I felt that his character was written to be more one dimensional then so many of Wes Andersons male protagonists of earlier films. The core relationship between Fiennes and the actor who played the lobby boy also didnt feel as emotional as it could have and that was a disappointment. I am always thrilled with Wes Andersons attention to detail, color and set design. And, in the past Ive thought hes struck a nice balance with very winning, funny, interesting characters. Maybe not this time.
