“Grasso Thrills in Maryland, Wins Non-Stop URC Event at Potomac” By Doug Watson Budds Creek, MD- Pedricktown New Jersey’s JJ Grasso stole the show last Friday night at Potomac speedway as he drove to his second feature win of the season in the 25-lap Rislone United Racing Club Sprint Car series event. The win for Grasso, worth $2000, was the 2009 URC champion’s 23rd career URC feature score and his first tour win since his May 11 Selinsgrove (PA) triumph. Ed Aikin and Dan Mazy brought the field down to the initial green flag of the event, with Aikin blasting into the race lead as the pack roared into turn one. As Aikin lead, 8th starting JJ Grasso was on the move. Grass reached second by the 6th lap and started to reel-in race-long leader Aikin. Grasso caught Aikin on lap-13 and would make, what would be, the winning pass on the 14th circuit. That was all Grasso needed as he would lead the distance to take the win by a wide margin over eventual runner-up, and defending URC champion, Robbie Stillwaggon. “We’ve been running third and fourth the past couple shows and it feels really good to finally get another win.” Grasso stated in Potomac’s victory lane. “I knew coming from 8th would be tough but this car was good all night and we were able to pass a bunch of cars early and get towards the front and we did it without a caution.” Superb track conditions aided in Grasso’s winning performance. “This is one of the best tracks we’ve raced on all year.” Grasso stated. “It got a little rough going into one there towards the end but other than that you could race all over tonight. I’d just like to say thanks to all the people who help on this car and to Jon Eldreth especially we go up and down the highway an awful lot and we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.” Aikin settled for third, Dan Mazy was fourth with 10th starting Josh Weller rounding out the top-five. Heats for the 18 cars on hand went to Aikin, Mazy and Stillwaggon. URC feature finish 1. JJ Grasso 2. Robbie Stillwaggon 3. Ed Aikin 4. Dan Mazy 5. Josh Weller 6. Chad Trout 7. Brian Carber 8.
