Gratitude Day 135: Ownership What do we own really? Nothing..... - TopicsExpress

Gratitude Day 135: Ownership What do we own really? Nothing..... we borrow things for our entire lives or keep them for a while but it is all transient moving up, down and sideways. I think the only thing we truly own, that we keep and hold are our thoughts and actions. Those thoughts and actions are what stay with us molding us into who we are. Those thoughts and actions are not always pretty, proper and good. Sometimes our thoughts and actions are harmful, shameful, negative and bad. Those detrimental actions and thoughts are sometimes more valuable than the beneficial, positive and affirming actions we strive for. The value in the less noble actions and thoughts are the lessons presented to us by faltering and fumbling. If however we dont learn and grow from the arbitrary behavior we are doomed to keep repeating it until that light bulb goes off in our head illuminating a path for change. We cannot escape our thoughts and actions. We can pretend they dont exist, we can run away from them, we can bury them under all sorts of behavior and hide them from others or try to hide them from ourselves but they are like a shadow on a sunny day inescapable and irrefutable. No matter how good or bad intentioned those things that we think and do stick with us, we own them as part of our history, our DNA. There are things in my life thought and done that I am incredibly proud of and feel great about other deeds and deliberations that mortify and shame me. I own them all once the thought enters my mind, once the thought manifests into behavior it is mine for the duration that I allow. What I think, say and do doesnt define me unless I allow it to but once it happens ownership for better or for worse is mine and mine alone. My hope is that those thoughts and behaviors that do me harm, do others harm and make my life less than what it can and should be will serve as guide posts, beacons steering me away from the damaging traps that drag me down.By learning the lessons of my own bad decisions and activity as well as what I witness from others Ill learn what not to think or do. Conversely by striving to build a life of inspiring thoughts and deeds and seeking others who are doing the same I not only hold ownership of a life that gives me hope, happiness and fulfillment but hopefully spreads that message to my own family and others. When I find myself heading toward the worm hole of irrational and arbitrary thought and deed realizing the harm to myself and those around me owning that will create and steering clear. Ownership of anything is a choice, even when something is given to us that we may not want we choose how to be the stewards of that ownership as long as we want to or have to own whatever it is. Investing, growing and nurturing ourselves to have the best life we possibly can is the ultimate compliment to our creator and the people that we have in our lives. All the rest of it the cars, the money, the homes, the stuff is an illusion to be used, enjoyed and shared for the short time we are here and able. with Lisa Campbell McCorkle
