Grave Creek Mound Archaeological Complex Lecture & Film Series 2013 Native American Heritage Month Lecture Whaqaa, Aloha, Shiyo: Native Community as College Classroom presented by Bonnie M. Brown Native American Studies Program Coordinator, West Virginia University Thursday, November 21, 7:00 pm WVU students explore Native America in a personal way: within the landscape and communities of indigenous peoples. Follow along as the students witness daily life in a subsistence Yupik Village (render seal oil, process walrus meat, experience the tundra) ...take part in traditional practices in Native Hawaii (tend the taro fields, make poi with the elders, cook in an imu/underground stone oven) ...and walk the ancient pathways of the Cherokee (visit Kituah and Nikwasi mounds, learn from tribal elders about Cherokee plant medicine, stories, pottery, and dance).
