Grazing of large herbivores helps improve the ecological health of grasslands. This is one of the (many!) reasons that grass-fed beef is far, far better for the health of the local and global environment than cattle fed grains that are facilitated by industrial fertilizers, pesticides, and nonrenewable fossil fuels. This also is a reason why large-scale grazing of grasslands (by large herbivores) is a better use of land used for food production than large-scale monoculture crops like corn and wheat, which require massive interventions of fertilizers and pesticides (and, in many cases, genetic engineering) to produce the yields demanded by multinationals and to keep the prices of processed food artificially low. Grazing of grasslands also allows the land to function as a carbon sink, offsetting some production of greenhouse gases.
