Great Active Self Protection by this store owner! He wasnt going - TopicsExpress

Great Active Self Protection by this store owner! He wasnt going to be robbed at gunpoint, let me tell you. This is almost, ALMOST textbook in self-defense. This is how it should go! Lessons: 1. The shop owner had his firearm on him and was, by his motions and approach, obviously well trained and practiced. It gave him what he needed to survive, and thats a great lesson. How much margin for error do you want in your training and practice? Do you want to be JUST good enough to survive, or do you want to be so good that you have lots of margin in your survival? 2. The owner waited for the perp to lower his handgun. He didnt draw on a drawn gun, but on a held gun while the perp was distracted with his demands. Very, very smart. Wait for your opportunity. Get ahead of the bad guy and then defend yourself. 3. When the blasting started, perp #2 bagged out. You cant count on that, but it happens a lot because criminals (contrary to Hollywood depiction) are by definition cowards who are only self-interested. 4.Looks like the owner put three into the bad guy at first. If he worth shooting once, he is worth shooting a lot. The owner couldnt have known that the perp was totally out of the fight so again he provided margin for error. Excellent work. 5. It looks like he had some kind of malfunction in the gun after the third shot, but he cleared it quickly and efficiently. Work on malfunction clearance!! 6. One TINY, tiny nitpick with his actions is that he didnt move to cover after the initial shooting was over. He stood and admired his work. Thats very understandable, but not the best approach. Get to cover and call the cops. Im not trying to armchair quarterback him at all because he rocked this encounter and gets a gold star, but it is at least worth mentioning. Attitude. Skills. Plan.
