Great Analysis from #Lizzie_Phelan: On Monday Kenyan troops launched a huge assault on Westgate shopping mall, that destroyed a supporting column of the building and part of the building to collapse in on itself, when there were still civilians inside (clearly the army could not know if those civilians are dead or alive) following RPGs being fired through the roof. A third of the complex is in ruins. That assault has been widely accepted by the media and subsequently public, as a necessary act to eliminate the siege on the mall by terrorists. There has been no discussion about how they could have been more careful to spare civilian life. In areas of Syria, where there are potentially thousands of terrorists that share similar aims to Al Shabaab, and the same previously in Libya, those governments similarly launch(ed) assaults to end the siege on those areas by terrorists. And yet the only discussion driven by the media has been about how civilians have not been spared, not an in built assumption as with Kenya that those assaults were unquestionably necessary.
