Great Cellists of The 20TH Century write: Benedict Kloeckner, “The sensitive cellist with slender hands amazed his listeners not only with perfect intonation but also by the fabulous effortlessness and grace of his playing.” Neue Züricher Zeitung. Benedict Kloeckner, born in 1989, is a prize winner of international competitions such as the European Broadcasting Union Award in Bratislava, the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann cello competition in Berlin, the Animato International Soloist Competition in Zurich and the “Nicolas Firmenich Prize” of the Verbier Festival (CH).Furthermore he received the “European Culture Prize” by the “European Culture Foundation”. Klöckner has performed as soloist with well known Orchestras like the German Radio Orchestra, the NDR Symphony Orchestra, the Slovakian Radio Orchestra, the MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Kremerata Baltica, the German State Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestras of Berlin and Prag. He has worked with a number of conductors including Michael Sanderling, Howard Griffiths, Heinrich Schiff, Simon Gaudenz and Karl Heinz Steffens as Soloist at such venues as the Berlin Philharmonic Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Festspielhaus Baden Baden, the Tonhalle Zurich, the Laeizhalle Hamburg, the “Mozarteum” Salzburg, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Rudolfinum Prag and the Arts Center in Seoul. He has played chamber music with Anne Sophie Mutter, Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet, Antoine Tamestit, Paul Meyer and András Schiff. He has frequently been invited to the most famous music festivals like Mecklenburg Vorpommern-, Schleswig Holstein-, Ludwigsburg-, Schwetzingen-, Gstaad-, Boswil- and Verbier. In November 2014 , he will play several concerts with Anne Sophie Mutter in the USA and Canada. 2015 he will play with Anne Sophie Mutter at the Festivals in Salzburg,Paris, Madrid, Luzern, Schleswig Holstein, Mecklenburg Vorpommern- and Rheingau Festival. Benedict Kloeckner regularly collaborates with contemporary composers, including Wolfgang Rihm, whose Cello Concerto “temptation” he performed in Munich, as well as Howard Blake, who wrote him a cello sonata. In celebration of his 75th birthday, Howard Blake has recorded his entire repertoire for cello and piano, himself performing on piano, with Benedict Klöckner for Genuin in cooperation with the SWR. His CD recording of the Schumann Concerto with the German String Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Michael Sanderling at Genuin, was highly praised in the international press and on the radio. Also for Genuin Benedict Kloeckner recorded cello sonatas by Strauss,Rihm and Poulenc, this CD is nominated for the German Critic Award. For Hänssler Classic/Naxos he made an album with rare works by spanish composers both as a duo with José Gallardo. Gidon Kremer has invited him to record a CD with Italian concertos by Roberto Molinelli and Gian Carlos Menotti with the Kremerata Baltica conducted by Heinrich Schiff. In the next season he will play concerts in Washington, Chicago, New York (Carnegie Hall), Toronto, Mexico City, London (Barbican Center) Prague (Rudolfinum), Munich (Gasteig), Paris, Berlin and Rio de Janeiro. Benedict Klöckner has been studying with Martin Ostertag at the HfM Karlsruhe since 2002, as well as with Frans Helmerson within the Kronberg Academy Masters Program, graciously financed by the “Angela Winkler-Scholarship”, since October 2009. In 2012 he has got his Master of International Solo Performance of the Kronberg Academy.
