Great Music at “The Chuck” Beginning in 2003, Carey Driscoll, operating as AMSDconcerts (originally known as Acoustic Music San Diego), has produced over 600 concerts in San Diego. In December of last year, we were proud to bring the music to Sweetwater High School’s Laura R. Charles Theatre. Irish Christmas in America and The Hot Club of Cowtown, a Western Swing group from Austin, started us off with a bang. The concerts will continue to bring a diverse group of performers to SUHI. In the ten concerts currently booked, we have folk & rock legends Richie Furay, Janis Ian, Barry McGuire, and P.F.Sloan; the psychedelic orchestra It’s a Beautiful Day; cowboy singer Dave Stamey; traditional Irish band Goitse; contemporary singer/songwriter/comedian Cheryl Wheeler, and singer/ songwriter/ satirist/ author/ biographer (of Charles Bukowski)/ & would-be American legend Tom Russell. Through Careys direct donations and his appeals to the audience at every show, the SUHI Theatre Department has already received more than $700 AFTER ONLY TWO SHOWS. To put things in perspective, thats more than $700 above the amount we receive from the school and district. First, though, this Friday we will welcome Daniel Champagne, an astonishing Australian guitarist, blues and ballad singer. He’s little-known outside his native Australia, but that is likely to change when the world meets him. A while back, I posted the Spoonful video to highlight his amazing guitar talent; Pendulum may be even more impressive; Heart Like This shows his talent as singer-songwriter, and here also is a very soulful cover of Don McLeans Vincent.
