Great News For UAE People Free BBM for Android, Apple: Voice, video call Service is enabled in UAE Service Started Now in UAE BlackBerry voice and video chat service will soon be available on Android and iOS platforms. Currently, only BlackBerry users, except for those living in the UAE, are able to use BBM messenger on their BlackBerry handsets for voice and video calls and messages. The service is blocked here in the UAE and BlackBerry officials recently told Emirates 24Z7 that they are indeed working with the two service providers and the regulating authority to introduce the service here. Andrew Bocking, executive vice-president of BBM for BlackBerry, told CBC News in an interview that the twin services would be enabled on the BBM Messenger app on both Android and iOS. Although Bocking did not reveal the exact date as to when the service would be enabled he said users could expect it within months. He also stressed that the service would continue to remain free and that BlackBerry would try and monetise the service through other services. Meanwhile, users in the UAE continue to be deprived of the voice and video chat service on the BBM messengers on BlackBerry handsets. According to sources in the industry, negotiations for approval are in the final stage and at least one telecom operator could launch the service soon. “The other operator will automatically follow suit,” he said, without giving more details. In February this year BlackBerry, ahead of the launch of Q10, had said that they were continuing to negotiate with officials in the UAE. According to Irfan Khan, the blocking of BBM voice and video service makes no sense anymore as various other chat services have launched similar facilities on their platform. “I continue to use WeChat and even Skype on my mobile to make voice and video calls using the Wifi network,” he said. WeChat, another mobile social communication application which is gaining popularity, allows its users to make video and voice calls and is available for Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Symbian and Window Phone operation systems and available in 18 languages including Arabic. In April, Skype downloads were officially unblocked as people started using the service in the UAE.
