Great article. I really believe the trigger to push is different for everyone, and sometimes just has to pop into your head. I often find my best trigger is to think just push like this for 1 more...(km, or min, or to another aid station) then you can ease off. Giving myself the out option, often results in me actually pushing another km, or min etc, and again, and again. Soon, the finish line is closer than the point where I was going to ease off!!
