Great article for those who are waiting. My opinion (for what its worth), Rehnquist and Roberts are of a mind to cut what the High Court rules on, letting the lower courts have more say. In theory I like this - but there are some things that require a federal decision, especially when the state constitutions conflict with federal laws. In this case it would be cowardly or cynical to wait until all the circuit courts rule and then follow them with a more politically palatable decision knowing where the political winds are blowing, rather than taking the issue head on and making a ruling that, God forbid, makes you unpopular! As well, like the Equal Rights Amendment which never was, if there only a mish-mash of lower court rulings, there will likely be unequal enforcement of the law. Supporters of gay marriage must needs to press the US Supreme Court to rule, and if they are able, get the expedited decision as well - justice delayed is justice denied. nytimes/2014/03/23/us/appeals-expected-to-block-more-marriage-bans-on-fast-track-to-justices.html?hpw&rref=us
