Great column by James Gill, but I quibble with this sentence: “Briggs has always parroted the industry line that greedy trial attorneys and pro-plaintiff courts scare oil and gas companies away from Louisiana.” Briggs has not parroted any line; he’s dictated it. He was behind the anti-moratorium propaganda campaign in 2010. He was one of people pushing to cut off funding for the Tulane Environmental Law Clinic (which his buddy Sen. Robert Adley led the legislative charge on). The deposition in the LOGA/Briggs suit against Caldwell reveals Briggs to be what he is — a propagandist with no regard for facts or the truth. You can get away with that in the court of public opinion, but apparently not in the court of law. This is the suit that Briggs insisted be brought. The phrase “hoisted on his own petard” applies here — richly!
