Great cruises on the Mega Nova and the Zodiac today! The seas are finally starting to settle down after Post Tropical Storm Arthur and we were able to get to an area of the Bay of Fundy that we hadnt been in quite some time. We headed to a ledge area that is locally known as the rip. It is turbulent waters at times, bringing rich nutrients up from the bottom to feed the plankton in the sunlight zone, creating some rich waters for all marine life. The birds were abundant with sightings of Great Shearwaters, Wilsons Storm Petrels, Northern Fulmars, Northern Gannets, Red Necked Phalaropes, and we even had a great look at a Laughing Gull, that followed the boat for a bit. We were also able to get some great looks at a minke whale and a fin whale, the largest type of baleen whale that we see here in the Bay of Fundy. Fin whales can be up to 80 feet in length. Minke whales are the smallest baleen whales that we see here and are up to 30 feet. It sure was a great day!
