Great debate, Tariq Ramadan who has made clear time and time again - TopicsExpress

Great debate, Tariq Ramadan who has made clear time and time again that he is not a member of the MB, intellectually criticizes their faults specifically in Egypt, but he also admits that you cannot solely lay blame on the one year they were in power. It is extremely difficult having discussions with anyone regarding the MB because it becomes and issue of defending accusations and not an issue of discussing issues. Individuals primarily in the Middle East and for me particularly in Libya give benefit of the doubt to a number of dictators and rulers throughout the region for mistakes made in the political realm, but are quick to criticize, judge, and attack any MB related government whether it be the AKP in Turkey, Hamas in Gaza, Al Nahda in Tunis or AB in Egypt. When you look at all the mentioned they have all won through grass-root efforts in a democratic process and have either accomplished great feats (AKP in Turkey) who has lifted the country to great place economically and Al Nahda in Tunis who has worked with other parties to approve a Democratic constitution, other parties were just not accepted ie Hamas and now Egypt. I am not a member of the MB but it makes no sense to muzzle them and remove them from both the political and social environment because they either made mistakes or you dont agree with their ideology. This also goes vice versa that islamist (I hate that word) should not be able to isolate and ignore liberals or secularists because they dont understand and agree with their beliefs. I appreciate Mehdi Hassan for going really hard in the debate and pushing individuals to answer hard questions. At the end of the debate you will find that Tariq and Anas Altikriti are both suggesting intellectual conversation from both sides while the other two are just criticizing and asking for condemnation of very specific rules of law. It is not about the quick win it is about changing the mindset for a better society where we can discuss our differences and come to an agreement.
