Great food for thought here. When a Navy SEAL who has provided advice at the highest levels of the military, Dept. of Defense and other cabinet-level hearings can be placed in a position of requiring public assistance (albeit at an earlier time in his career), what does that say about the value we place on the service of our military men and women? He makes a good point that the pay scale was created at a time when we had a conscription service (not that that should matter). Thats no longer the case. The training these soldiers receive puts them at a civilian level at least equal to middle-upper managers and higher - not to mention putting their llives as risk and their futures on hold. Our country is at a time and place where we are having to reassess our values and put our money where it will demonstrate those values - thats why were so polarized right now. This is tough stuff, but if we are the America we all boast about, we must meet that challenge and be the kind of a society in which we say we live. What will it take? Find out whats going on, dig a little deeper than the nightly news, develop an informed opinion and call your representatives to let them know what you think. Become accountable and hold our leaders accountable for their actions. In a democracy, we get what were willing to accept. Each of us is the we we talk about - there is no them.
