Great going with chickening out of running The Interview, theater chains. Seriously, youre all afraid of North Korea? But North Korea hacked Sony Pictures, a multi-billion dollar corporation! Yeah, well, considering the existence of Passwords the Folder, do you really think it was probably that hard? Sony showed some serious ineptitude on their part. But theyre a nuclear power! And every missile test they brag about always winds up making them look like a doofus. Seriously, North Korea is kind of the equivalent of the senile old guy who screams get off my lawn! while wandering down the city street every rare once in a while when he escapes from the nursing home. And youre afraid of that? Seriously, in 2014, we cancel a movie just because North Korea flipped out because of the plot involving their dictator. But remember back in 1940 when we released The Great Dictator, right at the height of Hitlers power? Hitler WAS a serious threat considering what he was doing to Europe, but the show went on. The movie was still shown, and has gone down has being one of the greatest movies in film history and contains what many people consider to be the greatest speech of all time. Yes, The Interview looked like it was going to be much goofier and like it wouldnt have the same sort of cultural impact or message, but still. By pulling this movie, youre saying that its okay for other countries to bully us into showing only the media that they approve of. We have to be able to make our own choices about film ourselves. We have to maintain the ability to question. To analyze. To explore. And, yes, to poke fun. But if we let the dictator of North Korea tell us what films we can and cant show in our theaters, then where does the line end? If he can dictate our entertainment, does that not mean that he has won where other dictators have failed? That he can control us by a mere threat alone? And an empty threat at that? Way to let the terrorists win, guys. Id say kiss your freedom goodbye but you already did that long ago. (Also, Passwords the Folder should be someones fursona/otherkin identity.) Sony should release this movie all over the Internet as quickly as possible.
