Great history of email... Im pretty sure I was the only one I knew who had email in High School (in the mid-1980s), but it was MCI Mail that allowed my dad to email me from Russia, but when it got to the US, it was printed and mailed to me by conventional means. And vice-versa. The biggest email-related life turning point was when I applied for a position in the US Senate in 1997 and included my email address but neglected to put a phone number on my resume. Little did I know, but the Senate had only just gained the ability to email to the outside world from their network a few months prior and my future boss Marguerite Beck-Rex had to get help from Tarry Bricks Carapezza just to reply and invite me to interview. Fortunately, she thought it was worth the effort and turned out to be a great career move for me, but I always wonder about the phone number-less resumes I never heard back from.
