Great, however I had proposed a letter to then Senator Ken Salazar, and this last year to President Barack Obama, to create a Federal holiday here in the ol U.S.A. to honor our Indigenous People as the Original Americans, in addition to Columbus Day; not to replace but to have both. Still have not heard word on this idea. Mr. Salazar did reply that if it ever came over as a ballot on his desk he at that time, would be able to respond to it. pfc But in the meantime, a lesser well known day are as follows: Indigenous Peoples Day[1] (also known as Native American Day) is a holiday celebrated in various localities in the United States, begun as a counter-celebration to Columbus Day. The purpose of the day is to promote Native American culture and commemorate the history of Native American peoples. The celebration began in Berkeley, California, and Denver, Colorado, as an alternative to Columbus Day, which is listed as a federal holiday in the United States but is not observed as a state holiday in every state.[2] Indigenous Peoples Day is usually held on the second Monday of October, coinciding with federal observance of Columbus Day.[3] *** Help heal old wounds by making a Federal Holiday, perhaps utilizing a great Indigenous leader to represent all of the tribes here in America ! We cannot make a holiday for all races, but not everyone is an Original American as our North American Indians are. :)
