Great journalism by Donnie Hardin, thanks for doing the research bro! Written By: Donnie Hardin, Personal Friend & Fan Things You Probably Did Not Know About Christopher Volz. Before There Was Flaw... Many of us know a lot about Christopher Volz thanks to his intimate, inspiring, emotional, and overwhelmingly powerful lyrical content, which has been casts upon Flaw fans since the late 1990s via the special gift that is his unique and highly trained vocal capabilities bursting with every element of emotion the soul can possibly endure, the great gift passed on to him from his mother, Helga. Helga was a trained opera singer who Chris tragically lost as a young boy, but keeps strongly alive and forever living through his soul and his unparalleled talents. Which in turn are offered to adoring fans, friends, and family as an amazing gift to all. Something he has openly discussed since the bands inception. With that being said, what about his life as a young man just beginning his path in search of his way to overcome the adversity no human being shall ever endure? Well... thanks to a very good friend, who shall remain anonymous, I have been gifted with very personal photographs and information about the teenage boy who would become an inspiring man to thousands and thousands of souls in search for some kind of assurance to push through the unforeseen adversities of life through his masterful, poetic words and gifted voice, that leaves the listener no choice but to listen. These things, you may have not known, and may surprise you as they have myself. In 1987 he began attending Massanutten Military Academy, a coeducational college preparatory school located in Woodstock, Virginia, where he graduated from ROTC in 1991. Chris met a girl named Jen, the two together looked like the ideal All-American teenage couple. (see Photos below) Sometime within this period, Chris would move from Virginia to New Jersey, soon to leave his teenage years behind. From 1992-1993, he lived in Lakewood, New Jersey, where he worked as BLS First Responder and Ambulance driver for Coastal E.M.S. While in New Jersey, Chris met an amazing young woman named Kym Allyn, the loving couple got married separating after 5 years. Ending yet another chapter of his life, Chris would then make his way to the Bluegrass state of Kentucky, where some relatives resided, who persuaded Chris to give the move a try. There was a long-term home waiting for him in Louisville, the birthplace of Muhammad Ali, Louisville Slugger baseball bats and the eccentric Gonzo journalist known as Hunter S. Thompson. A creative, steadily growing, unique city. But as a young man grows, things drastically change. Somewhere after this period he would move to Louisville, Kentucky. During the years 1995-1997 he would take a job as armed security for the Kentucky Special Police, tasked with the duty of keeping secure University of Louisville Hospital and its highly regarded Level-1 Trauma Center, the only Level-1 facility within 150 miles of the river city of Louisville. Quite the responsibility considering the job meant keeping not only the hospital secure, but keeping secure a 20-block radius of hospital grounds in a busy section of downtown Louisville. Somewhere within this period, fate would place him in the path of a couple of other abnormally, musically talented young inspired, charismatic, young men. The rest, a cliché but oh so true, as they say, is history. Christopher Volz was dealt with a hand that is unfathomable to most of us. He suffered, clawed, and took that gift his mother has blessed him with, and no matter how many times he was knocked down, he gathered the strength to get up again. Not only helping himself, but helping all of us, and giving us something that is forever and will remain long after we are gone. He is the epitome of never giving up. It took him unimaginable trials and tribulations to bring these words to us. If you listen really close, you can hear every single battle, triumph and life lesson. I hope he doesnt get mad because I have shared this information, but as not only a Flaw fan, and a personal friend, I feel it is my duty. I may be banned from this place, (however I highly doubt it, these are my brothers). Thanks for reading. Donnie Hardin
