Great letter from my friend and supporter in this weeks - TopicsExpress

Great letter from my friend and supporter in this weeks papers. Truth, Disinformation, Exaggeration, and Self Serving Interest Many recent letters to the editor are replete with disinformation and personal attacks against Senator John Smith. His detractors have stirred up a recipe containing a pinch of truth, a cup of disinformation, cup of exaggeration and two cups of self-serving interests. One theme pontificates that the Senate Election is bought by outside interests including Seattle and out of State PACs. The facts show otherwise. The PDC shows that John Smith has received 393 contributions. Seventy five percent (293) came from within the 7th Legislative District, 20 percent from other counties within Washington and only 5% (19 contributions) from out of State. Senator Smith has raised $88,000. In contrast his opponent has raised only $13,810 from 90 contributions, 70 percent (63) came from Ferry County, the smallest county in the District. Other contributions came from Spokane County (8), Stevens (16) and (3) from areas outside the 7th District. His single PAC contribution is from the Washington Education Association (WEA) Labor Pack. The WEA contribution and the endorsement of the Pend Oreille County Labor Coalition provide a contrast to his conservative rhetoric. Another letter states that 63% of John Smiths neighbors vote against him and that only 41% of Colville voted for him. The facts are that John Smith lives in Columbia Precinct where he received 20% more votes than his opponent. Colville has seven precincts where he averaged 11% more votes, 23% more votes in Kettle Falls, 42% more in Chewelah and 38% more Stevens County votes than his closest opponent and though he had two opponents he still received over 50% of the votes in the 7th District. Another ridiculous letter States that John Smith “would like to get rid of all public schools and have everyone provide home schooling” The truth is that John Smith fought for and won an increase of $ 1.6 Billion in the Washington school District Budget and did so without meeting the WEA’s ongoing request for more taxes. In addition while John’ s opponent was securing his $900 PAC donation from the WEA John was out visiting with representatives from 28 school Districts to determine their future needs and priorities. Unlike his opponent, Senator Smith has received contributions and support from a broad geographic area and base of citizens, businesses and PAC’s associated with farming, agriculture, timber, mining, transportation, fishing, energy, medical, hospitals, dental, firefighters, realtors and many others. All 23 Republican State Senators have endorsed John Smith. Those who support and contribute to John Smith do so because they appreciate his votes and steadfast support for the 7th District. I have known John Smith and his family for seven years. He is a devoted husband, a dedicated father and Christian man who has attended a local Colville church for many years. He is knowledgeable, capable and has a proven voting record that supports the values of the 7th Legislative District. Grant Peterson Chewelah Washington
