Great letter to the editor Rotorua Daily Post! Where to put the Maori vote? David Cunliffe says Labour will have nothing to do with either Internet Mana or the Maori Party. Maori need to be aware that if they gave all of their Party Votes to one Maori based Party they could get as many as 18 members into Parliament. That could possibly be more seats than Cunliffe led Labour could muster on their current polling trend. Maori should remember that it was Labour who sold off the forests resulting in massive Maori job losses in Waiariki, and it was Labour who confiscated the Foreshore and Seabed in the biggest Maori land grab ever. The Maori Party has aligned itself strongly with National and by association the Dirty Politics saga, and the selling of State Owned Assets, been instrumental in seeing huge Maori Job losses coupled at the same time with the vicious tightening of benefits. The Maori Party has also led the charge to eliminate or greatly change the Maori Community Development Act, has wasted $15 million trying to turn Maori wardens into unpaid Police Officers, is attacking the control structure of Te Reo Maori and is proposing largely unpopular changes to the Te Turi Whenua Act including the Maori Land Court. National’s other friends, Act and the Conservatives, want Maori to vanish. Having attended several campaign meetings, the one candidate who stands out and proposes a clear concise vision for the overall needs of Waiariki Maori is Annette Sykes of the Mana Movement..
