Great memories. Ran across some sports articles, including one about the one and only Spencer Johnson and Jermaine Jb Butler, two of Madisons greatest athletes, while doing some research for a piece Im writing. Jermaine consistently winning and breaking records in the 55m (6.3 sec), 100m (10.6 sec), 200m (21.7 sec) and 400 (47.9 sec), and Spencer, a beast on the football field with five 200 yard rushing games as a senior at Madison Memorial and a city record of 1,599 yards in a season - Awesome. But Bruh, Spencer, whats up with that grin? Was it that serious?! :-) Sorry, had to post that. Proud of these brothers still. Also ran across articles on our beloved Stephen (Greg) Henderson,Jr., who scored 40 touchdowns as a high school sophomore at 14 years old at Madison West and had one of the best backfields in Madison West history with Garlon Hamilton. RIP Greg, 1995. Still miss you. Still one of the most gifted football players and all around athlete in Madison history. We need an African American Museum in Dane County to recognize and preserve our rich history here, including he history of our youth. The achievement gap and racial disparities do not define our rich contribution to this community or this state.
