Great message from John C. Maxwell. Many people think that Leadership is a title or a position but this way of thinking is wrong. How do I know because people dont just follow a person in a position...well some people may but most dont. Leadership is influence. One of the most common mistakes people make is trying to lead others before developing relationships with them. I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own . . . My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:14, 27 As you prepare to develop other people, take time to get to know one another. Ask them to share their stories with you-their journeys so far. Find out what makes them tick, their strengths and weaknesses, their temperaments, and so forth. And spend some time with them outside of the environment where you normally see them. It will develop your relationship in a way it hasnt before, and it will help you grow.
