Great news: Arsenal are poised to pull the trigger on the signing of Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista – with the deal potentially being done as soon as today. The Brazilian centre-back has impressed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is desperate to strengthen his sides defence following a spate of injuries, while he also allowed Thomas Vermaelen to join Barcelona last summer with no replacement. Paulista is the man Wenger is zeroing in on to help bolster his backline and the indications are that a deal is well down the line to completion. According to Spanish radio station Cadena SER, Paulista could even become an Arsenal player as soon as today, with Villarreal having accepted that he could well leave. Villarreal boss Marcelino was quoted as saying: If both Gabriel Paulista and the club believe that his sale to Arsenal is the best for all parties, we will accept it.
