Great news! ISIS has nothing to do with real Islam. Nothing to worry about. Go back to sleep! from an islamic page (google parts of it to find it)-- Dr. Ibrahim Negm, Advisor to the Grand Mufti of Egypt, condemned the displacement of Iraqi Christians and forcing them to pay the jizya (taxes). In a lecture delivered to large number of representatives of different religions in the Islamic center in New York, Negm stressed that the actions of ISIS have nothing to do with the tolerant spirit of Islam which calls for coexistence and provides freedom of faith for all people. He added that the actions of ISIS distort the image of Islam and hurts the Prophet [peace and blessings be upon him] who said, “He who hurts a dhimmi [Christian or Jewish], hurts me” and “Whoever oppresses or is unjust to a person with whom we have a covenant, burdens him beyond his capacity, or takes something from him without his free will, I will be his adversary on the Day of Judgment.” He added that the lives, property, and honor of non-Muslims are as sacred as those of Muslims. Negm further explained that kind treatment of the People of the Book was the etiquette of the rightly guided caliphs. He said that ISIS has used religion according to its own interpretation which serves its purpose. Furthermore, forcing non-Muslims to pay jizya is considered misinterpreting Islamic texts. He concluded by saying that many jurists have maintained that a dhimmi who participates in fighting against enemies is absolved from paying the jizya. There are examples in history when the jizya was waived with regard to non-Muslims when they accepted defending their homelands alongside Muslims, which is the situation at present. BUT: Did the murdered christians in Iraq have a covenant? No. Does the Quran say Christians have only 3 choices: convert, die or pay jizzya? Yes. (Quran 9:29) Does the kind of oppression that occurred under the Pact of Umar (and arrangements like it) count as oppression for Negm? Obviously no. If Mohammed denounces you for certain actions on the day of judgment does it mean Muslims are obliged to deter you from doing them? No. kind treatment of the People of the Book was the etiquette of the rightly guided caliphs -- Really? Define kind. the lives, property, and honor of non-Muslims are as sacred as those of Muslims. -- really? Quran 9:29 says non-Muslims should all be killed unless they are people of the book (Jews, Christians and maybe a few others), and those who need not be killed have to feel themselves subdued, i.e. suffer constant humiliation, discrimination and abuse. Quran 4:93 says whoever kills a believer [i.e. muslim] intentionally, his punishment is Hell. It doesnt say whoever kills a human being intentionally, his punishment is Hell. Mohammed said He who hurts a dhimmi [Christian or Jewish], hurts me. Really? In which of the sahih haddith collections is that found and where? Here are some sahih haddith that indicate that if Mohammed ever said hurting dhimmis hurts him, it was only to protect his income stream. Bhukari Volume 4, Book 53, Number 388: Narrated Juwairiya bin Qudama At-Tamimi: We said to Umar bin Al-Khattab, Jo Chief of the believers! Advise us. He said, I advise you to fulfill Allahs Convention (made with the Dhimmis) as it is the convention of your Prophet and the source of the livelihood of your dependents (i. e. the taxes from the Dhimmis.) Bhukari Volume 4, Book 53, Number 404: ... Abu Huraira once said (to the people), What will your state be when you can get no Dinar or Dirhan (i.e. taxes from the Dhimmis)? on that someone asked him, What makes you know that this state will take place, O Abu-Hu raira? He said, By Him in Whose Hands Abu Hurairas life is, I know it through the statement of the true and truly inspired one (i.e. the Prophet). The people asked, What does the Statement say? He replied, Allah and His Apostles asylum granted to Dhimmis, (i.e. non-Muslims living in a Muslim territory) will be outraged, and so Allah will make the hearts of these Dhimmis so daring that they will refuse to pay the Jizya they will be supposed to pay. Another interpretation is: if you hurt the Jews and Christians too much they will become rebellious and thats not good. In other words: ISIS is behaving in a way contrary to islamic doctrine inasmuch as its behaviour threatens to awaken the West to the the threat of islam at a time when the West is still strong enough to hurt it. By hurting Christians [to such a degree and at this time!], ISIS is hurting Islam. With that I agree. In my opinion, Dr Negm is just doing damage control.
