Great news for all ultramarathon runners… Velocity Distance - TopicsExpress

Great news for all ultramarathon runners… Velocity Distance Project owner, Dave Hale, recently obtained approval from ultramarathon race director extraordinaire Terri Hayes to assume race directorship for five ultramarathons that Terri will no longer will be producing. After several years of dedicated race directorship responsibilities, Terri has decided to step aside to focus more on other projects. Dave will be teaming up with a friend of his, and notable fixture at many endurance races, Drew Walker, to plan and produce the newest South Carolina ultramarathon series. There is also the possibility for the development of ultramarathons in North Carolina and Georgia. The VDP team plan for these races is to develop them into some of the most popular races in the southeast. This will include the sale of ultramarathon merchandise at races, barbecues, camping, best swag bags ever, best awards, raffles, and to offer the absolute best runner experience on some of the most beautiful courses that can be found. Some of the races have not been put on for a few years, but will be resurrected and developed into mainstay fixtures on everyone’s ultramarathon schedule. We will also be putting together at least one and possibly two 100K/100 Mile races on some of the toughest courses we can find. Next week, the team will be meeting to come up with projected dates for the races, which will more than likely start in October or November this year. So, be on the lookout for more information on each race, and the series, and plan to jot them all down on your racing calendar. These are the races that will be part of the VDP Endurance challenge: will Long Cane 50K, Abbeyville, SC Buncombe 55K, will Union, SC Enoree Passage 40 miler, Union, SC Woods Ferry 24hr, Chester, SC Linches Woods 50K Let us know what you think of this, any ideas you may have for tough courses to use, what trail food to offer, and any other positive comments to share.
