Great news in the fight to save Broadoak from Peel. Local MEP Sajjad Karim MEP has written to Salford Council to support local residents in their fight to save local green spaces. Dear Sir or Madam, Objection: Planning Application 13/63157/OUTEIA - Land To The North And South Of Worsley Road And Land At Aviary Field Broadoak, Worsley As a Member of the European Parliament representing the North West of England, I write on behalf of my constituents to voice opposition to permission being granted for the above named planning application. I have been contacted by a number of constituents living in the Worsley area of Salford who have expressed deep concerns regarding plans by the developer to build 600 new homes and associated developments on the Broadoak North and South sites, either side of A572 Worsley Road. These concerns are justified as such a large-scale development would not only result in the immediate loss of amenity through the destruction of a precious Greenfield site and recreational asset, but also lead to a multitude of secondary problems relating to pressures placed on local infrastructure and public facilities, such as school places, GP surgeries and dentists. Residents are rightly anxious about the impacts the development would have in respect of traffic congestion and safety on roads that are already under significant pressure at commuter times. The added environmental consequences of noise, light and air pollution caused by the additional traffic is enough to have an unacceptable effect on those residing alongside both the development itself and key commuter corridors between the A580 and the M60. As a regular visitor to this part of my constituency, I know the unique cultural and historical value Worsley provides to both the City of Salford and the wider North West of England. I feel that such a development as that outlined in this application would both dilute the unique and identifiable character of this area and result in a significant loss to the quality of life experienced by those who currently reside in this most special place. Having witnessed the widespread objection to these plans (and as a subscriber to the Government’s localism agenda), I strongly believe that the result of any decision involving such contentious construction should reflect the views of those most affected by the outcome as closely as possible. Indeed a cornerstone of the National Planning Policy Framework published in July 2011 is to: ‘make sure the local plan - produced by communities - is the keystone of the planning system’. I ask you to listen to the genuine concerns expressed by my constituents and to reject the application by the developers for the construction of this highly inappropriate development. Yours sincerely Sajjad H Karim MEP LLB Hons
