It wasnt long ago we had our own coal ash spill into Lake Michigan at the We Energies Oak Creek Power Plant, and there are still homeowners west of that plant that can not drink their well water due to molybdenum contamination (suspected from a nearby coal ash landfill). We also have extensive coal ash that was used to fill parts of the Menomonee Valley and many riparian areas and ravines along our rivers historically. Congress has been considering coal ash rules now for several years, which would improve safety, set standards for beneficial reuse, and better address legacy contamination.
