Great players, selecting cash game, Tourney etc. There have been number of posts recently about why players play certain games and who in our opinion are great players we know & I thought I would throw in my pennys worth for debate. There obviously is a great difference between cash and tourney poker .. with cash game we can select game/seat etc and get out when ever it suits us and we can top up our stack when funds are avilable .. in tourneys its often just the start stack, sometimes with re-entry/re-buy and then as blinds go up game changes and a player needs to change strategy to be a winner .. but the varience in tourney really has a big swing in later stages as having played good poker for hours and even days and built a big stack we can end up racing in one/two pot and crash out in seconds and we have to be able to take such hits .. It can be tough when we keep crashing short of cashing as that can lead to thinking of giving up. Having played regular cash game, maily plo & tournaments all over the world with varying buy ins there have been times I have thought of giving up but then I lift myself and believe in my skills to be awinner and then good results like two cashes at recent city of dreams events makes me want to play some more to win some more. In tournaments one of the best player I have known is Sam Razavi (pici 1) who was a winner in Europe and then moved to play in Far East and is a Triple APT Champion and these championships are not easy to win with many good players from all over the world competing & Sam is a winner as he has the tact to change game/venue with changing situations & over 50% of his tourney winnings of over a $million have been cashed in the Fa East .. so maybe this isn place others may want to consider moving to ... It does have benefit of nice climate when is cold in uk... tourneys are fine way to have a shot at big prize for a low stake. In cash game I think one of the best players in around Birmingham at PLO game has to be Darren the Waz (pici2) .. I have known waz since the Rainbow days when we regularly did battle in tourneys and plo and he has managed to use the income from only poker to pay for everything in life .. now not many have managed to be so successful. He focuses mainly on plo cash game and is the player many others try to avoid clashing with as most often he will be carrying away a stack of chips at end of night and he can grind away night after night after night in live and online games .. when I am on the same table as waz I def want to have position on him. What makes a good cash game is a nice atmosphere and good banter and also plenty of fish willing to feed the game and keep it going and that is what has kept the plo game at broadway going for many years .. I have known players get of a table and leave when there is a dead game .. no laughs n banter or when table full of rocks & some would rather play Black jack or have spin at roueltte .. in once case a well know solid rock plo player sat down in a game and after about 10 mins he picked up his stack n left with speech .. I am not playing with these rocks. Poker players go where they have chance of a good game with chance to win biggg and that is why Tom drr Dwan has appeared at Solaire. Manila rather than being in Las Vegas or Macau big game. So to be winners we need to be analysing the situation and find a venue which offfers us what we want ... some just want to play for fun & happy to lose few $k every day & those we need to keep sweet so stay in game. PLO is def getting more popular in Far east and those that are good at this game def have chance of nice wins in far east as players here just learning game and often try to claim flush with bare ace and try to make straight using 3 cards from hand. Great thing about the many poker players that I have come across is that many many have great hearts and have donated generously to the Fruit4kids programme & other good causes and many events also hold a Charity event & may this always continue. Thank you.
