Great post from Mark Waldman: ACCEPT YOUR WEAKNESSES AND BE FREE: Acceptance turns out to be one of the most powerful ways to defuse anxiety, worry, and doubt, and it actually eliminates stress by NOT trying to change behaviors you consider weak. Try this experiment: Put yourself in a deep state of relaxation, and then write down, on a sheet of paper, every weakness you think you have. Staying relaxed, review your list, asking yourself “Does this weakness REALLY interfere with my work, relationships, or life?” 90% of the time, the answer is no. When it is true, write down 3 ways that you can work around your weakness (building a new skill, hiring someone with that skill, etc.). But do not “worry” about your weakness…that only makes you feel worse, and the more you ruminate on your weakness, the more real it will feel. So let those “weaknesses” flow through you like clouds in the sky. Observe them but don’t judge them. The British Journal of Psychotherapy recently published a review study and found that acceptance strategies were one of the most effective ways to deal with anxiety and depression.
