Great salamander outing in Montauk last night led by Andrew Sabin - TopicsExpress

Great salamander outing in Montauk last night led by Andrew Sabin and South Fork Natural History Museum. First stop for the rare pure-form Blue-spotted Salamander came up empty because water was deep and murky from all the snowmelt and rain. That pond was, however, loaded with fairy shrimp, which surprised us all. Next stop was in a shallow pool where there might be [just plain] Spotted Salamanders. There were--no exaggeration--hundreds of them. It was pretty incredible, and for a while i totally forgot that it was cold and raining hard. Thanks Andy, our Salamander Commander!
