“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together. -Vincent Van Gogh Whenever I look at my 2014 business goals, I think to myself that I am crazy for having such big dreams (i.e. - team of 80-100 people, company paid car, company paid vacation). But that kind of thinking is unproductive! Why waste your time on something unproductive? That is why I break out all of my big goals into smaller goals. Bite-sized goals. Like cutting a pizza into 16 small slices instead of trying to swallow it whole. Or looking at a marathon not as a long 26.2 mile race, but as 13 two-mile races, plus a short jog before the finish line! (Not that Ive ever run a marathon, but if I did this is what I would tell myself.) There is nothing wrong with setting big dreams, but you have to crawl before you can walk, and walk before you can run. Im the perfect example of starting small and working toward a big goal. Im 30 years old; I have very little prior sales experience; I have marginal management/leadership experience; I have zero jewelry experience. But I have passion/desire as my main driver, so Im quickly crawling and I know Im going to walk/run as soon as I have the chance! Im setting monthly goals so I dont panic when I think of trying to achieve my end of year goal. Im adjusting my strategy every month, just like a regular business. In the end, all of those small things I do will come together as one great big thing! :-)
