Trombone/Athletic Bands - Washington State University Pullman, Washington The Washington State University School of Music is accepting applications for the position of Trombone Studio Instructor/Assistant Director of Athletic Bands. This is a 9-month, non-tenure track position at the Clinical Assistant Professor level with the possibility of an additional 10th month for athletic band responsibilities. Job Responsibilities: - Teach undergraduate and graduate applied trombone - Perform as a soloist and in faculty ensembles including the faculty brass quintet and possibly Jazz Northwest, the faculty jazz ensemble - Assist the Director of Athletic Bands in all creative, educational, administrative, recruiting, and logistical needs of the Cougar Marching Band - With assistance from Director of Athletic Bands, coordinate basketball and volleyball bands, with conducting responsibilities for men’s basketball band Depending on studio size, other duties may be assigned that meet the needs of the School and the skills and interests of the candidate; these may include general studies classes in Rock Music or Jazz History. Qualifications: Masters Degree in Music required. Doctorate or ABD preferred. Applicant must have success as a trombone studio teacher, teaching and administration experience with collegiate or secondary school marching bands, and success as a drill writer and trombone performer. Jazz trombone skills and athletic band arranging abilities are not required, but are desirable.
