Great tip...i have been doing this for last couple of weeks and you really do feel the benefits...i had no idea how short my automatic breathing was...Thanks for Sharing Phil. Practice Beneficial Breathing By Dr. Andrew Myers • September 13, 2013 • Nutrient Focus with Dr. Myers Share Good breathing is a deep, cleansing activity. On a daily basis, most of us breathe shallowly, using only a small percentage of lung capacity. This only gives the body part of the oxygen it needs. It’s kind of like holding your breath all day long. Breathing may be automatic, but that doesn’t mean it’s unchanging. If you lead a busy life, you may spend a lot of time breathing shallowly while you’re under stress. That kind of breathing can become a habit. Even when you’re not under stress, you may still breathe as if you are, unless you take conscious control of the process. The key is to purposely slow down and think about the fact that you need to breathe to take in more oxygen. Remember that every single time you take a breath, you’re conducting a health-giving activity. Breathing is about training your mind to think in a different way, then acting on that training. If you want to feel better and reduce stress, make purposeful, optimal breathing a daily habit. Try this: Take a few minutes a day to breathe deeply, and use simple, optimal breathing whenever you feel stressed. When you feel particularly overwhelmed, breathe deeply as a tool to lower the impact of that stress on your body. Take five or ten deep breaths in a row, breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. This activity affects your body biochemically, leading to a relaxing, calming effect that goes beyond a simple break in your day.
