Great week for Wedover FC as 1st team and Reserves seal club double with fantastic wins! Wendover Firsts 4 APR 3 Ludgershall 0 Wendover Reserves 3 The reserves got a brilliant win away from home at Ludgershall. In the swirling wind up on the hill side in Ashendon the boys did brilliant to smash 3 goals and keep a clean sheet in the process. Goals from Archie White and a brace from Richie Cairnie doing the business. Hopefully the ressies can push on from here for the rest of the season. Well done lads! The first team started off the new year playing the same opposition they finished the end of last year with in APR with this time at Home in the Berks & Bucks jnr Cup which proved to be an extremely eventful one! On a windy day conditions werent ideal for the ball playing Black & Golds but nevertheless the team remained confident having shown attributes this season of being able to scrap it out as well as playing the pretty stuff. The game started evenly with APR playing with the wind behind giving a definite advantage but stand in keeper Ren Passaro (filling in for the suspended Scott Thomson) had little to do in the early stages. Wendover took the lead thanks to a well worked set piece with Tom Sheppard picking out Bruno Passaro who after a scramble in the area smashed home from close range! The great start however would be undone between then and half time with the opposition grabbing 3 goals in a short space of times to turn the tie on its head. A couple of errors were again involved and Wendover went into half time knowing that they had gifted the rarely threatening opposion back into the game with some sloppy play. Thes second half however would epitimise the fight and desire of a side that refuse accept anything but a win and with the wind pushing them forward The Towers went on to secure another thrilling comeback! Wendovers second goal came courtesy of a classy Tristan Nicholls free kick bent into the right corner of the net with the goal keeper stranded. Game on, and it wasnt long before Wendover had the chance to equalise. A crazy handball from an APR centre half would present the usually highly reliableTommy Sheppard an opportunity from the spot.....however the keeper made a good save diving to his right. This would not stop The Towers for long though and when a clearance found its way to Bazzle Huddlestone he wasted no time in deciding to shoot and smashed home a belter from 30 yards out! The well deserved equaliser would coincide with a long stoppage to the game when the APR goalie got injured in the process with what was a serious looking back injury. An ambulance was called and the young keeper was safely taken to hospital. We wish him well and hope its not too serious. With 16 minutes left the game got back under way with the boys instructed to go for and get the win. They duly did and when Darren Woolard was put through on goal he smashed home emphatically causing great celebration from players and fans alike! The last few minutes were seen out successfully and Wendover progress to the 5th round of the B&B cup as well continuing their unbeaten run in the progress! MOTM: Darren Woolard Well done to both teams on 2 great wins! Many thanks to all those who came to watch and gave us brilliant support! Onwards and Upwards!
