Great weekend of music in my hometown of Wheeling, WV at the Heritage Music BluesFest. Three daze of award-winning blues. This festival always symbolizes summers end for me because as soon as its over (or while its still going on) I usually launch into my Back to School Tour. This year, the second weekend of August fell a little early and I was able to enjoy all three days. But sure enough, Monday morning I was on the road at 6am but not for a college date. I headed down to Asheville, NC to perform at the Grove Park Inn for a corporate client. Each month this summer I visited an historic mountain property for corporate work. August was the GPI, July was the Homestead Resort in Virginia and in June I was at one of my all-time favorite locations -- The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. All three properties are Omni-owned members of the Historic Hotels of America as recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. But Back to the Blues (which is my new favorite blues tune as written and performed by Hadden Sayers featuring Ruthie Foster) Bruce Wheeler has done an incredible job with this festival over the last 14 years. And this year the weather was perfect (the weather has been extraordinary all summer long in The WV) with just a light rain between Sundays closing acts -- Ana Popovic and the Spin Doctors. The festival is held at a waterfront park with the Ohio River as the backdrop. Such a great venue. Ive posted a quick video from last years festival. I play it when Im on the road to remind me of home -- it makes me happy!
