Greater Is He This is written for anyone who is struggling today and for pastors and ministers who go out into the ghettos of the world to reach the lost: Sometimes we go through difficult spiritual terrain and encounter dry places where it seems you won’t survive. All of the circumstances surrounding you seem so overwhelming and oppressive that you consider looking for a soft place to lie down and quit struggling. You feel weak physically and spiritually. You work hard not to appear depressed or in any act depressed, but you are depressed, tired, feeling useless, old and maybe a little antiquated. You think it might be time to turn it all over to someone else, if you can find someone with the same burden and commitment that compelled you to leave family, friends, and familiar surroundings long ago. You cry out, but it seems no one is listening and you think possibly, that all the positive work you could do is done…and you are done. You are tired of trying to make your income meet the demands and it seems that the demands are getting larger. It seems that the world has ganged up on you to make it impossible for you to even maintain a minimal lifestyle and you feel you don’t have any answers. The truth is evident that you have no answers. You don’t remember it ever being like this. You quote scriptures and walk around the house uttering prayers and trying to encourage yourself quoting, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” You have reached the place where you can’t see it and you know you have to look beyond to the “things that be not as though they were.” You know you have to gain control of your carnal thoughts and the fear that tries to invade. Everything within you tells you to pray and trust God even in these times that seem so destitute. You are not asking for much. Just enough to pay your bills, keep body and soul together, and respond to requests for your help. In these moments we have to remember that no matter what the circumstances, God is still in control. You know He has not given His responsibility to anyone else. 2Sam.22 [3] The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. [31] As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. Samuel wrote it and you know it, but the enemy has thrown everything he can at you. It is what he does. He isn’t after your possessions. He wants to kill you and I. He wants to make sure you and I are no longer a threat to his efforts to further his kingdom. If we have been around any length of time at all and been taught, we know to pray….no matter what…pray. Don’t try to do anything to fix it…just pray. When you have done all you know to do….just stand and look for the Lord. He heard our prayer. We have all been in this place. As I struggled under this effort to oppress I prayed and opened the Book. This is the scripture that came to me. It is not just circumstance. It is my answer. It is my promise and encouragement. 2Kgs.6 [17] And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. Open my eyes, Lord! To see the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire around me! I need to remember and so do you….we are never alone! 1John.4 [4] Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world. The words encourage us to get up and go on…one more day…no promise of tomorrow…just today. We raise our hands and reach out to accept the Lord reaching out to us. All I need to do is touch Him and I know He will touch me. Lord! We can do this! Do not let your flesh dictate your spiritual welfare.
