Green Grass In The Winter. I like for my grass to be green all winter long. Here is how I do it. Around the 15th of August I stop mowing, this lets the grass get tall. The last week of August I spray the entire yard with Round-Up. This old dead grass will fall over and act the same as Wheat Straw. This year I sprayed on the 27th of Aug. Sowed new seed on the 28th. The last picture was taken today the 10th. You can see the yard is already turning green in just 2 weeks time. On the average it is 30 days from the time I spray Round-Up until I am mowing again. The first picture is what it looks like early Spring. Picture #2 is what it looked like on August 27th when I sprayed it. Picture #3 is what it looked like on Sept. the 3rd. Picture #4 is the new grass growing.
