GreenThumb9 and I spent a very encouraging weekend with homeschoolers at the OCHEC Conference in Ancaster! We set up our display, and had a terrific opportunity to share our love for geocaching with everyone who stopped by for a visit! We took the time to explain how to become a member at geocaching in order to play the game, and shared our ideas about integrating geocaching into their everyday curriculum. It was awesome meeting many homeschool families who regularly use geocaching to teach their kids about the world around them, and equally exciting to watch as muggle eyes lit up when they realized the potential to enhance their home education by geocaching! Saturday afternoon, while GreenThumb9 manned the display, I ran a workshop for about 40-45 teens. We had hidden 18 geocaches earlier in the day, and now it was time for them to team up and find them! After some classroom time learning about the geocaching website, how to set up their own account, and how to navigate to ground zero using our GPS devices, we then set them free to race around the university campus in search of the geocaches! Would we do it again? IN A HEARTBEAT!
