Greenland shark is a type of shark that is toxic. It was caught for hundreds of years only for its liver and fat. The rest of the meat was thrown away. Eventually, an Icelander discovered, by accident of course, that a very special way of curing the meat by letting it rot and dry out over several months, makes it edible. Most Icelanders hate rotten shark, but its so unique that the trade survives off its rarity. Im at one of only three farms in the world to make rotten shark. Here they serve it by the toothpick. This is a video of my first bite. I definitely wound up eating way more than my share. It wasnt until later that I had this constant petroleum fishy Halifax harbour smelling tingle in my nose. No amount of Dentyn Ice could get rid of this. I now regret purchasing a tub of this fish for the road.
