Greetings! A question, if I may... A bard here in the Midrealm - TopicsExpress

Greetings! A question, if I may... A bard here in the Midrealm asked me about the possibility of getting an Anglo Saxon lyre made (and since, to the bemusement, lets call it, of my beloved lady, my particular strain of helium hand is the type that causes one to say things like, Well, I dont know, Ive never done that before... hand me that hammer once...), I set out to do so. Not wanting to break the bank, or, at the time a sore elbow, I wanted to see if it was possible to build the thing like a modern guitar, with thin bent sides, sound board and back, and whatever internal bracing might be necessary. The above mentioned bard now has the first prototype, unbeautiful thing that it is, cobbled together from scrap (pictured), for field trials, if you will, and the learnings from that will inform the construction of a hopefully much nicer one. My question, then, is anyone aware of anyone else building lyres in this fashion, as opposed to the traditional chopped out of a solid plank method? I have only found one photograph, but it had no source or credits or information. I have also been advised of a gentleman in the UK who is supposed to be building in this manner, but the photos on his site dont really indicate how the instruments were made. Many thanks, Froði Ketilsson
